How Winslow Windows & Doors Came to Westchester
When we opened our doors here in 2011, Westchester already had plenty of contractors willing to sell windows and doors. What it didn’t have, in our view, was a team that treated a home like a home. We had spent enough time watching homeowners get quoted one price on the phone and a different one after the work began. We had walked into houses where the previous installer had left gaps you could feel from across the room. So we did something simple: we brought the Winslow Windows & Doors standard to this neighborhood and committed to running every job the same way we’d want it done at our own house.
From day one, that meant showing up with a written line-item estimate, not a handshake and a “trust me.” It meant pulling permits where the job calls for them and making sure every inspection passes before we call the work finished. It mattered to us then, and it matters more now, because we live here too. Westchester isn’t a territory to us. It’s where we get our coffee, where our kids go to school, and where the humidity does unkind things to cheap caulk if a window isn’t sealed right. We started this branch because this city deserved better. We’re still here because we meant it.
Ed Winslow’s Personal Connection to the Windows & Doors Trade
Ed Winslow never planned to spend his life thinking about window frames and door hinges. He got into this trade the way a lot of people get into something real: by having to fix a problem himself. He was working on a house that had a sliding glass door that wouldn’t slide, a front entry door that stuck every time the summer humidity rolled in, and windows that rattled when a truck passed. He pulled the trim off the first window expecting the worst, and what he found was a frame that had been shimmed with scraps and sealed with whatever was left in the truck. It wasn’t a mystery why the room was hot. It was just careless work.
He fixed that window, then the door, and somewhere in the process he realized this wasn’t just carpentry. A window is the thing between your family and a thunderstorm. A front door is the first thing your guests touch and the last thing keeping the outside out. The more he learned, the more he cared about doing it right. He spent years after that learning from experienced tradespeople, taking apart old installations to see how they were built and why they failed, and slowly developing the exacting approach that now defines how our crew works.
What keeps him going after all this time is still the same: the moment at the end of a job when a homeowner runs a hand along a new window and realizes the draft they’ve been living with is gone. That small, quiet thing. He’d rather be doing this than anything else, though if you ask him on a slow afternoon, he’ll admit he’s never met a fishing pier he didn’t like. The work is personal for him. It always has been.
Meet Ed Winslow - The Person Behind Every Job
Ed Winslow is the Owner & Founder of Winslow Windows & Doors, serving Westchester and the surrounding communities since 2011. He came up learning this trade from experienced tradespeople, not from a corporate training manual, and it shows in how he approaches every project: measure twice, install once, and never leave a house until the job is right.
What separates Ed from a franchise technician is something simple but rare. He treats every home like it belongs to someone he knows, because in Westchester, it usually does. He’s detail-oriented to a fault, genuinely interested in why a window fails rather than just replacing it, and personally committed to making sure every homeowner we work with feels informed, respected, and never rushed into a decision. If you call our office, you’re talking to a live coordinator. But the standards behind the work are Ed’s, and he stands behind them on every single job.
Our Promise to Westchester Homeowners
We promise honest pricing in writing. Not an estimate that grows once the drywall comes off. Our quotes are line-item and fixed, with no change orders unless you ask for something extra. If a job takes longer than we estimated, that’s on us, not your invoice.
We promise quality parts. This is South Florida. Salt air, humidity, and hurricane season are all real. We’d rather install a window or door that’s built to handle this climate than save a few dollars on something that won’t last.
We promise to stand behind every job. When we finish, we walk the project with you. If something isn’t right, we fix it. No arguing, no disappearing. That’s the whole point of hiring a local team that plans to still be here next year.
Our Credentials
- State-licensed: We hold the licensing required to perform window and door work in Florida.
- Insured & Bonded: Our team carries the coverage homeowners should expect before anyone steps onto their property.
- 15 years in Westchester: This branch has been serving this community since 2011.
- Strong local reputation: The majority of our work comes from referrals and repeat customers.
Why does this matter to you? Because hiring someone to work in your home is an act of trust. A license means the state has verified the work can be done properly and legally. Insurance and bonding mean that if something goes wrong, you’re not left holding the bill. And a long local track record means you’re not gambling on an unknown. You’re hiring a team your neighbors already know.
Rooted in Westchester
Westchester is home. We know the neighborhoods, from Bird Road out toward the Palmetto, and we know what this climate does to windows and doors over time. The salt air near Coral Gables, the afternoon storms rolling through Doral, the humidity that never really leaves Kendall. This community is where our team lives and works, and it’s why we care about every house like it’s our own.
