CWS Door Installation: The Westchester Owner’s Guide

CWS door installation in Westchester typically runs $850 to $2,400 installed, depending on whether we’re replacing hardware, a slab, or the full frame system. We stock CWS-compatible parts on our trucks and can usually complete the swap same-day for standard configurations. Most Westchester homeowners discover the problem the hard way: a door that suddenly won’t latch, a hinge that’s sagging, or a lock that fights the key after years of salt air and afternoon thunderstorms.

At Winslow Windows & Doors, we’re an independent installer. We’re not affiliated with CWS, but we’ve been matching and installing their door systems across Westchester for years. That means we know which parts fit, which ones fail first, and what actually holds up in this climate.

Which CWS Models This Applies To

CWS builds a few distinct door lines, and the parts are not interchangeable across all of them. The CWS 800 Series and 900 Series are the most common in Westchester homes, especially in the older construction pockets around Bird Road and Coral Way. The 800 Series uses a standard 1-3/4″ slab with adjustable top-hinges; the 900 Series uses a heavier-gauge frame with a multi-point lock. If you try to put an 800 hinge on a 900 frame, the throw is off by about 3/16″ and the door will never seal right.

Here’s the compatibility gotcha we see all the time: the sticker on the hinge edge of the door has the model number, but it’s often painted over or faded beyond reading. If that’s the case, measure the slab thickness and check the bottom sweep. The 800 uses a friction-fit sweep; the 900 uses a screw-in. That 30-second check tells us exactly what we’re working with before we even order a part.

For OEM versus aftermarket: CWS hinges and rollers are worth matching OEM. They’re specific to the frame profile, and the aftermarket copies we’ve tested wear out noticeably faster in South Florida humidity. But for weatherstripping and bottom sweeps, a quality aftermarket equivalent actually outperforms CWS stock in salt-air conditions. We carry both and we’ll tell you which makes sense for your door.

Signs Your CWS Door Installation Is Failing

  • Door drags or scrapes at the bottom corner. This usually means the top hinge has worn or the slab has dropped slightly. The 800 Series hinges carry a lot of weight, and after 7 to 10 years in coastal air, the pin play starts to show.
  • Deadbolt won’t fully throw without lifting the handle. The door has sagged enough that the strike plate no longer lines up. Forcing the bolt is what eventually strips the lock internals.
  • Air and water visible around the perimeter. Failed weatherstripping or a warped bottom sweep. We see this most after a couple of hard hurricane seasons; once the sweep loses its compression, afternoon downpours in Westchester find the gap fast.
  • Door sticks only in summer. Humidity makes the slab swell and bind against the frame. If the reveal wasn’t set right at installation, this gets worse every year.
  • Handle or lock feels loose, or the key needs jiggling. Internal wear in the multi-point mechanism. This is the part we replace most often on the 900 Series; the locking points are under constant tension and eventually lose their timing.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s the honest pricing picture for CWS door installation work in Westchester:

  • Hardware swap (hinges, rollers, sweep, weatherstripping): $850 to $1,300 installed
  • Slab replacement (new CWS or equivalent slab, matched to existing frame): $1,400 to $1,800 installed
  • Full door system swap (slab, frame, threshold, hardware): $1,800 to $2,400 installed

What drives the range: the condition of the existing frame, the series (900 costs more in parts), and whether we need to rebuild any framing. Every quote is a written line-item price before we start. No change orders, no “we discovered a problem” upcharge later. The work includes haul-away of the old parts, all labor, and our workmanship warranty. Ed Winslow’s name goes on every quote, and the Done Right Promise backs it: if it’s not done right, we make it right.

DIY or Call Us?

There are a few things you can safely check yourself: look for loose hinge screws (you can snug those up), give the bottom sweep a visual once-over, and check the weatherstripping for obvious tears. Those are free, five-minute checks.

But here’s where DIY goes sideways. A CWS slab is heavy, and getting the reveal consistent all the way around while a door is hanging is a two-person job with the right shims and the right eye for it. The multi-point lock timing on the 900 Series is unforgiving; if it’s off by even a fraction, the door won’t secure properly and you’ve created a security problem instead of fixing one. And if the hinge mortises are wallowed out, shimming or longer screws is a band-aid that fails again in a year. For anything beyond tightening a screw or wiping down a sweep, call us at (850) 721-1218. We’ll come out, look at it, and tell you straight what needs doing and what doesn’t.

What Neighbors Say About Winslow Windows & Doors

★★★★★

"Our insurance agent asked for the wind mitigation paperwork and Ed had the whole file ready the day the job closed, every opening photographed. The premium conversation went very differently this year."

OOdessa Fairbanks
★★★★★

"Three big companies quoted us and every one sent a salesman with a leased truck. Ed turned up in a truck with his own name on the door, quoted less, and his crew were the same faces on day one and day nine."

YYolanda Betancourt
★★★★★

"We sat out a hurricane behind the windows Ed put in. The gusts threw a neighbour's trampoline down the street and the loudest thing in our house was the kettle. I rang him after to say thank you and he answered his own phone, same as always."

TThaddeus Okonkwo
★★★★★

"He replaced the front door and the garage door in the same week, both rated for impact, and lined the frames up so straight my level had nothing to say. My wife stopped hearing the highway from the front room."
