CGI Window Installation: The Westchester Owner’s Guide

CGI window installation in Westchester typically runs $850 to $2,400 per opening, installed, depending on the window’s size, series, and whether the frame needs reframing for the new impact assembly. We stock CGI-compatible hardware and fasteners on our trucks, and most Westchester replacements are completed the same day we start. What usually brings a Westchester homeowner to this page is a window that won’t seal after a storm, a crank or balance that let go, or a frame that started showing its age in Florida’s salt-and-humidity air. You know the part. You just need someone who can match it to your exact CGI model without guesswork.

Which CGI Windows This Applies To

CGI’s product line in South Florida homes spans several series, and the right installation parts are not interchangeable across all of them. The Sentinela series (common in Westchester’s older ranch homes), Estate Collection, Targa, and Panorama lines each use distinct balance systems, sash guides, and weatherstripping profiles. The fastest way to identify yours is the white or silver sticker on the top rail of the sash or the side of the frame. It lists a series name, a manufacturing date, and often a serial number. If the sticker is faded or painted over (and we see that every week), the frame’s width and the glass thickness usually tell us what we’re looking at. Here is the compatibility gotcha: CGI changed its balance spring spec on Sentinela windows around 2012. A part ordered by “CGI Sentinela balance” alone will be wrong for about half of the pre-2012 windows still in Westchester. We verify year, series, and weight class before we order anything. We install OEM parts when a window is under warranty or when the homeowner wants an exact factory match. For out-of-warranty windows, we offer quality aftermarket equivalents that meet the same DP (design pressure) ratings at roughly 60 to 70 percent of OEM cost. We also stock common CGI-compatible hardware for PGT, CWS, and ES Windows jobs, since many Westchester homes carry more than one brand, and homeowners tell us it’s easier to have one company handle the whole house.

Signs Your CGI Window Installation Is Failing

  • The window won’t close square against the frame. This is usually a worn balance spring or a bent hinge on a casement, and it’s the number one reason Westchester homeowners call us. Even an eighth-inch gap lets humid air – and in storm season, driving rain – through the opening.
  • You hear a popping sound when you operate the sash. That pop is typically a balance shoe that has slipped out of its track or a spring coil breaking under tension. The internal parts wear faster near the coast because salt air corrodes the steel components inside the vinyl track.
  • Condensation between the glass panes. When the insulating gas escapes through a failed seal, you get fog you can’t wipe off. It’s not a cleaning problem; the sealed unit needs replacement, and in a CGI window, that usually means separating the sash and rebuilding it in-place or at our shop.
  • Visible corrosion on locks, keeps, or hinges. South Florida humidity does not take a day off. Hardware that looked fine in March is pitted by October, especially on windows facing Biscayne Bay breezes. Corroded hardware is the first failure point we replace before it becomes a forced-entry risk.
  • Water trails or soft spots on the interior drywall below or beside the window. This is the symptom that worries us most. By the time you see drywall staining, the window’s flashing or seal has been failing for months, and the rough opening may need repair before the new window installation can proceed.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For Westchester homeowners, here is what we actually see on CGI window installation pricing in 2026:

  • Balance spring replacement: $210 to $380 per window, parts and labor
  • Hardware replacement (locks, hinges, keeps): $140 to $320 per opening
  • Sealed glass unit replacement (insulated, impact-rated): $520 to $1,150 per sash
  • Full window installation with new CGI-compatible frame: $850 to $2,400 per opening, depending on size, series, and whether we’re reframing the rough opening

Every line-item price we quote in Westchester includes the part, installation labor, removal of the old assembly, and a written warranty on the work. We don’t add “disposal fees” or “trip charges” at the end. The quote we hand you is the number on your invoice. The biggest driver of cost range is whether the opening itself is still sound. In Westchester’s older concrete-block homes, we often find the window buck or framing needs partial replacement once we open the wall. We tell you before we do it, with a photo and a clear explanation, not after.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely inspect your CGI window for the symptoms above: look at the hardware, check the weatherstripping, note where water or corrosion shows up. That gives us a head start when you call. What we do not recommend is opening a CGI sash assembly yourself to replace a balance spring or tensioned part. Impact windows are heavier than standard windows because of the laminated glass, and when a balance lets go unexpectedly, the sash can drop hard enough to cause injury. CGI specifically designs these units so the sash travels on a calibrated spring and shoe system; without the series-correct spring weight, you can install a part that fits and still fail because it is not rated for the glass weight. We have fixed four DIY attempts in Westchester this year alone, and every one of them cost more than the original repair would have. Call (850) 721-1218 for a free estimate. A human answers.

What Neighbors Say About Winslow Windows & Doors

★★★★★

"Our insurance agent asked for the wind mitigation paperwork and Ed had the whole file ready the day the job closed, every opening photographed. The premium conversation went very differently this year."

OOdessa Fairbanks
★★★★★

"Three big companies quoted us and every one sent a salesman with a leased truck. Ed turned up in a truck with his own name on the door, quoted less, and his crew were the same faces on day one and day nine."

YYolanda Betancourt
★★★★★

"We sat out a hurricane behind the windows Ed put in. The gusts threw a neighbour's trampoline down the street and the loudest thing in our house was the kettle. I rang him after to say thank you and he answered his own phone, same as always."

TThaddeus Okonkwo
★★★★★

"He replaced the front door and the garage door in the same week, both rated for impact, and lined the frames up so straight my level had nothing to say. My wife stopped hearing the highway from the front room."
