PGT Door Installation: The Westchester Owner’s Guide

PGT door installation in Westchester typically runs $450 to $1,400 installed, depending on whether you’re replacing hardware, a threshold, weather stripping, or the full door slab. We stock PGT-compatible parts on our trucks and can usually get most Westchester homeowners scheduled within a few days of their call. Most people discover they need us when the door starts dragging, the lock won’t catch, or daylight starts sneaking in around the frame after a good South Florida downpour.

Which PGT Models This Applies To

We install and service parts across the PGT lineup you’re most likely to find in Westchester homes built or renovated in the last 15 years: the WinGuard series (aluminum and vinyl impact doors), the ClassicVue, and the PremierVue sliding glass door lines. If your door was installed as part of a hurricane-protection upgrade, there’s a strong chance it’s a WinGuard, which uses a heavier-gauge frame and multi-point locking hardware that’s specific to PGT’s impact-rated design.

Here’s what you should know before you buy: PGT parts aren’t universal. The hinge screws, the roller assemblies, and especially the multi-point lock bodies vary by series and by the year the door was manufactured. A 2012 WinGuard hinge won’t always match a 2022 WinGuard. The quickest way to identify what you’ve got is to look for the PGT label on the door edge or in the frame track. It’ll show the series, the glass make-up, and a manufacturing code we can cross-reference. If that label’s worn off, we measure the frame, the hinge spacing, and the lock mortise to pin down the right match.

On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question: PGT’s OEM hardware is built to the same impact standard as the door, so we default to it. But there are quality aftermarket equivalents for things like rollers, weather stripping, and sweep seals that cost less and perform just as well in coastal conditions. We’ll tell you when the aftermarket part makes sense and when it doesn’t. Winslow Windows & Doors is an independent installer, not a PGT affiliate, so we stock what actually holds up in South Florida, not just what one catalog offers. We also keep parts for CGI, CWS, and ES Windows doors for the same reason.

One compatibility gotcha we see a lot in Westchester: homes with a mix of PGT windows and CGI doors because the previous owner replaced things in stages. If your door is CGI rather than PGT, don’t force PGT hardware on it. Different lock geometry, different roller profiles. Bring us a photo of the label and we’ll save you a wasted trip to a parts counter.

Signs Your PGT Door Installation Is Failing

  • Door drags or scrapes the threshold. This usually means the rollers or the hinge-side shims have worn down. In Westchester’s heat, builder-grade roller bearings wear out faster than people expect, and once the door starts to sag, the lock and weather strip take the hit next.
  • Lock lever turns but won’t throw the bolt. The multi-point lock rod inside the door edge has slipped or the gearbox inside the lock body is worn. This is a PGT-specific mechanism, and forcing the handle is a good way to snap the interior gear.
  • Daylight or water at the bottom corners. The sweep seal and the threshold cap have flattened or the frame has settled. Water intrusion at the corners is the number one reason we replace PGT door thresholds in Westchester, especially on doors that face east and catch the afternoon storm lines.
  • Door flexes when you push on it. On an impact door, flexing means the seal compression is off or the frame anchors have loosened. A PGT door that’s properly installed shouldn’t move more than a hair when you press the center of the panel.
  • Condensation between the glass panes. The insulating glass unit has lost its seal. You’re looking at a glass replacement rather than a hardware fix, and on impact-rated doors in Westchester, this isn’t a job you want to put off through hurricane season.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Westchester, most PGT door installation jobs we quote fall between $450 and $1,400. Here’s how that breaks down:

  • Hardware replacement only (locks, hinges, handles, multi-point gearbox): $180-$420 parts and labor.
  • Threshold and weather seal replacement: $220-$480 installed.
  • Full door hardware refresh (all moving parts on an existing slab): $350-$650.
  • Door slab replacement (same frame, new impact door panel): $900-$1,400 depending on glass and finish.

The biggest cost driver on slab replacements is whether you’re matching an existing impact rating and whether the frame is still square. If the frame’s solid, we keep it. If it’s not, we say so and show you what that looks like before we write anything up. Every quote is a line-item number, not a lump sum, so you see parts and labor separately. The work itself is warranted: if it’s not done right, we come back and make it right. That’s the Done Right Promise Ed Winslow put in writing, and it covers every PGT part we touch. There’s also $40 off any repair over $200, a free second opinion on any written estimate you’ve got from another company, and no trip charge if you’re here in the home county.

DIY or Call Us?

There’s a safe middle ground here, and then there’s the part where we’d rather you didn’t learn the hard way. You can clean the tracks, check the label for the model number, tighten visible hinge screws with a hand screwdriver, and take photos of anything that looks wrong. That’s genuinely useful before you call, and it helps us get the right parts on the truck the first time.

What we’d rather you not do is remove a PGT door slab. Impact doors run heavier than standard doors, often 150 pounds or more for a WinGuard with laminated glass. Removing one without a second person and proper blocking can do real damage to the door, the frame, or whoever’s unlucky enough to be standing there when the pins come out. If the door’s dragging, sagging, or leaking, call us at (850) 721-1218 and we’ll diagnose it honestly. If tightening screws is all it needs, we’ll say that and charge you accordingly. We’d rather earn a repair than sell you a door you don’t need.

What Neighbors Say About Winslow Windows & Doors

★★★★★

"Our insurance agent asked for the wind mitigation paperwork and Ed had the whole file ready the day the job closed, every opening photographed. The premium conversation went very differently this year."

OOdessa Fairbanks
★★★★★

"Three big companies quoted us and every one sent a salesman with a leased truck. Ed turned up in a truck with his own name on the door, quoted less, and his crew were the same faces on day one and day nine."

YYolanda Betancourt
★★★★★

"We sat out a hurricane behind the windows Ed put in. The gusts threw a neighbour's trampoline down the street and the loudest thing in our house was the kettle. I rang him after to say thank you and he answered his own phone, same as always."

TThaddeus Okonkwo
★★★★★

"He replaced the front door and the garage door in the same week, both rated for impact, and lined the frames up so straight my level had nothing to say. My wife stopped hearing the highway from the front room."
