PGT Window Installation: The Westchester Owner’s Guide

If your PGT window has failed or is failing, we stock PGT-compatible parts on the truck for most Westchester service calls and can typically install the same week you call. Installed replacement parts for PGT windows in Westchester generally run between $95 and $480 depending on the component, with full window replacement running $800 to $2,400 per opening. Most owners discover the problem the same way: a window that suddenly won’t lock, a sash that drops when you let go, or a draft that wasn’t there last hurricane season.

Call (850) 721-1218

Here’s the thing about PGT windows: they’re built for South Florida, and that means they’re engineered to take a beating. But even the best impact-rated window has components that wear out under our sun, salt air, and humidity. Balancers lose tension, weatherstripping turns brittle, and roller assemblies on sliding windows grind themselves into flat spots. When one of those parts quits, you need someone who knows PGT’s system, not a guy with a generic part that’s “close enough.”

Winslow Windows & Doors is an independent service provider, not a PGT corporate entity. That matters because it means we tell you the truth about what your window actually needs, whether that’s an OEM PGT part or a quality aftermarket equivalent that’ll serve you just as well for less money.

Which PGT Models This Applies To

PGT’s current line breaks down into three main families: the WinGuard series (their flagship impact line, including WinGuard Aluminum and WinGuard Vinyl), the SpectraGuard and Eze-Breeze lines, and their newer energy-focused series. In Westchester, the vast majority of what we work on is WinGuard aluminum or vinyl from roughly 2005 onward, with a healthy share of older 1990s aluminum frames still in service.

Here’s the compatibility gotcha most homeowners don’t know: PGT changed their balance system specs at least twice since 2000, and a 2008 WinGuard double-hung uses a different balance cartridge than a 2018 model of the same nominal size. The same applies to roller assemblies on their sliding windows and patio doors. So before you order a part online based on “PGT double-hung balancer” alone, you need the window’s exact era. We read the labels: every PGT window has an AAMA certification sticker or etched glass marking in the corner, with a manufacturing code that tells us the year and series. If the sticker’s gone, we measure the part and match it physically.

For the OEM-versus-aftermarket decision on PGT specifically: PGT’s own parts are well made but priced like they know they’re the only game in town. For things like rollers, weatherstripping, and lock mechanisms, there are aftermarket equivalents made to the same spec at 40 to 60 percent of the cost. But for anything in the load path of a windborne missile (laminated glass, structural frame components, multi-point lock bodies), we recommend OEM every time. It’s not about brand loyalty; it’s about not gambling with the thing that keeps your living room intact in a Cat 3.

We’re also authorized installers for CGI, CWS, and ES Windows, so if your window turns out to be a different brand entirely, the truck’s still pointed in the right direction.

Signs Your PGT Window Installation Is Failing

  • The sash won’t stay up. This is the number one service call we get in Westchester. The spring-loaded balance cartridge has lost tension, and the window either creeps down when you open it or drops like a guillotine. On PGT double-hungs, this is almost never the spring itself; it’s the block-and-tackle pawl that’s worn smooth.
  • You can see daylight or feel airflow around the frame with the window closed. Weatherstripping on PGT aluminum frames takes a beating from Florida UV. Once it’s flattened and cracked, the compression seal that gives the window its wind rating is compromised. It’s a part replacement, not a window replacement, but it’s not optional if you want the original performance back.
  • The window is noticeably harder to open or close, or grinds when it moves. Rollers on sliding windows pick up sand and salt over the years. Westchester homes near Snapper Creek or the C-4 canal get this worse than most because of the constant humidity plus whatever the wind blows in. The roller’s bearing seizes, then the wheel develops flat spots, and suddenly you’re muscling a window that used to open with two fingers.
  • The lock doesn’t engage cleanly, or the multi-point lock bar binds. PGT’s multi-point locks are excellent but finicky. The gear mechanism inside the lock box strips if it’s forced past a misaligned keep, and then you’re locked out of your own security feature. This one gets urgent if you’re in a wind-rated opening, because the locks are part of the pressure-rating system, not just convenience.
  • Condensation between the panes, not on them. If the seal between the glass lites has failed, the insulating gas is gone and there’s nothing to scrub off from the room side. That’s a glass unit replacement, and PGT’s WinGuard laminated glass makes it more involved than a standard IGU swap. You’re not fixing that with a hair dryer, no matter what the internet says.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Window installation part pricing in Westchester depends on which component you’re dealing with. Here’s what we typically quote, parts and labor included:

  • Balance cartridges (per window): $95 to $180 installed, depending on series and whether it’s a single or double balance.
  • Roller assemblies (per panel): $110 to $220 installed, including cleaning the track and re-aligning the panel.
  • Weatherstripping (per window): $75 to $150 installed, full perimeter replacement.
  • Multi-point lock replacement: $160 to $340 installed, depending on lock body complexity and whether the keep needs re-machining.
  • Sealed glass unit replacement (IGU): $350 to $900 installed, with laminated impact glass at the higher end.
  • Full window replacement (WinGuard or equivalent): $800 to $2,400 per opening, installed, depending on size, series, and whether interior trim work is needed.

What drives the range: aluminum versus vinyl frame, how old the window is (older models need part-matching work), whether we’re doing one window or five, and whether any frame corrosion or rot needs addressing before the new part goes in. We give you a written, line-item quote before we touch anything, and the price we quote is the price on your invoice. No change orders, no discovered “surprises” that double the bill. Ed Winslow owns this company, and he’s not interested in running a business where the final invoice makes people angry.

Every job is backed by our Done Right Promise: if it’s not done right, we make it right. That’s not a marketing slogan; it’s how we’ve operated since 2011.

DIY or Call Us?

Safely checking your window before you call us is smart, and here’s what you can do without risking anything: open and close the window a few times to confirm what you’re feeling, check whether the lock engages, and look for visible cracks or glazing breakdown around the glass edges. Take photos. That saves us a trip cost when you describe the issue over the phone at (850) 721-1218.

But this is impact-rated hardware, not a squeaky cabinet hinge. The balance cartridges in a PGT double-hung are under significant spring tension, and a mishandled cartridge can release that energy at your fingers. If your window is sticking, grinding, or bearing load, let a trained professional do the swap. We’re background-checked, uniformed, and we show up with the right part the first time because we’ve already done the diagnostic work over the phone with you.

If the window’s just frustrating and you’re not sure what it needs, call us. A real person answers, 24 hours a day, and we’ll tell you honestly whether it’s worth a service call or something you can live with for a while.

What Neighbors Say About Winslow Windows & Doors

★★★★★

"Our insurance agent asked for the wind mitigation paperwork and Ed had the whole file ready the day the job closed, every opening photographed. The premium conversation went very differently this year."

OOdessa Fairbanks
★★★★★

"Three big companies quoted us and every one sent a salesman with a leased truck. Ed turned up in a truck with his own name on the door, quoted less, and his crew were the same faces on day one and day nine."

YYolanda Betancourt
★★★★★

"We sat out a hurricane behind the windows Ed put in. The gusts threw a neighbour's trampoline down the street and the loudest thing in our house was the kettle. I rang him after to say thank you and he answered his own phone, same as always."

TThaddeus Okonkwo
★★★★★

"He replaced the front door and the garage door in the same week, both rated for impact, and lined the frames up so straight my level had nothing to say. My wife stopped hearing the highway from the front room."
