Therma-Tru Door Installation: The Westchester Owner’s Guide

Therma-Tru door installation in Westchester typically runs $350-$900 for a standard entry door swap, with full frame-and-threshold replacements landing between $900 and $1,800 depending on the model line and what’s behind the old jamb. We stock common Therma-Tru thresholds, weatherstripping, hinge, and sweep parts on our trucks, so most repairs happen same-visit. The usual call starts the same way: a door that drags on the tile, daylight showing under the sweep, or a deadbolt that stopped lining up after one too many humidity cycles. In Westchester, where we get real heat and afternoon downpours from May through October, a door that isn’t sealing is also a door that’s quietly costing you on the AC bill.

Which Therma-Tru Models This Applies To

Therma-Tru makes a lot of entry systems, but in Westchester the ones we see most are the Fiber-Classic, Pulse, Smooth-Star, and Classic-Craft lines. The part you need depends on which family your door belongs to, and here’s the gotcha: Therma-Tru’s adjustable sill caps and sweeps are not universal across series, even when the door width is identical. A Classic-Craft sweep will not seat properly on a Fiber-Classic bottom rail. The surest way to identify your model is the sticker on the hinge edge of the slab, which carries the series name and a manufacturing date code. If that sticker is long gone, measurements get you close: rail thickness, sill depth, and sweep channel width will tell us what we’re working with before we ever ring your bell. We are an independent installer and service provider, not a Therma-Tru affiliate, which matters because we can tell you honestly when an OEM part is worth the cost and when a quality aftermarket equivalent does the same job for less. The rule of thumb we follow on Therma-Tru doors specifically: sweeps and weatherstripping are fine as aftermarket when the channel measurements are exact, but sill caps and corner pads should stay OEM, because the composite Therma-Tru uses has a specific thermal expansion profile that generic fiberglass parts don’t match.

Signs Your Therma-Tru Door Installation Is Failing

  • Daylight visible under the closed door. The sweep has compressed or torn, or the sill cap has warped. In Westchester humidity, the sill cap is often the first casualty because it sits in the sun and the rain and takes thermal abuse all day.
  • Water staining on interior flooring near the threshold. The sill cap’s internal dam is cracked or the caulk line under the threshold has failed. You won’t see the break until the next hard rain, and by then the tile grout is already wicking water.
  • The door drags or binds on the latch side. This is usually hinge wear, but on Therma-Tru fiberglass slabs in South Florida it’s sometimes slab swell from moisture getting past a failed sweep. A dragging door is a symptom, not the problem.
  • The deadbolt no longer lines up with the strike plate. The slab has settled or the jamb has shifted. You can adjust the strike plate once, but if it drifts again in a few months, the real issue is the jamb’s connection to the rough opening.
  • Condensation or fog between the glass lites on a decorative Therma-Tru. The insulated glass unit’s seal has failed. That isn’t a repair you can patch; the lite gets replaced, and on Classic-Craft and Pulse models it’s a clean swap that most owners don’t realize is an option.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Service Typical Range in Westchester
Sweep or weatherstripping replacement $85-$180 installed
Sill cap replacement (OEM Therma-Tru) $220-$420 installed
Hinge replacement and slab realignment $140-$260 installed
Full door slab swap (same jamb, Fiber-Classic level) $650-$1,100 installed
Full system replacement (slab, jamb, threshold, brickmould) $1,100-$1,800+ installed

The spread comes down to what’s behind the door once we pull the casing. In older Westchester homes, we often find rotted jamb legs or a rough opening that was never flashed properly in the first place. We quote the job upfront and line-item the parts and labor separately, so you know exactly what the Therma-Tru part costs versus what our time costs. If we find hidden rot after demo, we show it to you before we touch anything else and the number doesn’t move unless you approve it. Every installation is backed by the Done Right Promise: if it’s not done right, we make it right, period. That’s Ed Winslow’s name on the invoice, not a ticket number.

DIY or Call Us?

Some things on a Therma-Tru you can absolutely handle yourself: replacing a sweep that slides out of its channel, tightening hinge screws with a longer fastener, and cleaning a sill cap’s weep holes are all fair game. But the moment you’re dealing with a warped sill cap that won’t seat, a slab that’s out of square, or any repair that involves pulling the door out of the jamb, stop and call us at (850) 721-1218. A fiberglass slab that gets dropped or a jamb that gets reinstalled a quarter-inch out of level turns a $200 repair into a $1,200 replacement, and Therma-Tru doors don’t forgive rushed work. There’s no shame in knowing where the line is. We tell owners plain: if you’re not sure, call first. A free estimate costs you nothing, and a live person answers at (850) 721-1218 any hour, any day.

What Neighbors Say About Winslow Windows & Doors

★★★★★

"Our insurance agent asked for the wind mitigation paperwork and Ed had the whole file ready the day the job closed, every opening photographed. The premium conversation went very differently this year."

OOdessa Fairbanks
★★★★★

"Three big companies quoted us and every one sent a salesman with a leased truck. Ed turned up in a truck with his own name on the door, quoted less, and his crew were the same faces on day one and day nine."

YYolanda Betancourt
★★★★★

"We sat out a hurricane behind the windows Ed put in. The gusts threw a neighbour's trampoline down the street and the loudest thing in our house was the kettle. I rang him after to say thank you and he answered his own phone, same as always."

TThaddeus Okonkwo
★★★★★

"He replaced the front door and the garage door in the same week, both rated for impact, and lined the frames up so straight my level had nothing to say. My wife stopped hearing the highway from the front room."
